brand film drone shots
How to brief an FPV shot that serves the brand film
An FPV shot can become the most memorable moment in a film, but that does not make it the idea. The brief needs to explain what the audience should understand, where the sequence belongs and which brand element remains readable during movement. Once that function is clear, the pilot and director can design a route with a real beginning and end.
State the communication job
Replace requests such as make it dynamic with one clear outcome: reveal the scale of a venue, follow a product from workshop to customer or connect several teams in one space. Identify the audience and the action after viewing. This single sentence becomes the test for route ideas. A technically possible move that does not improve the message can be removed before it consumes rehearsal time.
Place the shot inside the edit
Specify what comes before and after the FPV sequence, how long the final use is likely to be and whether dialogue or text must remain legible. The opening and exit frames may be more important than the most complex part of the route. Planning those handoffs gives the editor clean options and prevents the shot from feeling imported from another campaign.
Share constraints before creative approval
Provide accurate dimensions, access windows, people on site, fragile areas, weather exposure and brand restrictions. Confirm who can clear the route and who approves the movement. References should be labelled for the quality being discussed—pace, proximity, transition or colour—so the team does not assume every element must be copied.
Commission a useful delivery set
List the required aspect ratios, maximum lengths, clean plates and still frames. If portrait edits matter, identify which subject must remain in the safe area. Ask for descriptive file names and a simple route log so future editors understand each take. These production details turn a memorable flight into an asset that remains usable beyond the first launch.
Production checklist
- Define the audience and communication job
- Place the shot inside the edit
- Share access and safety constraints
- Label what each reference demonstrates
- Specify aspect ratios, clean frames and file naming
